Image to PDF

Image to PDF for any mix of formats

Phone photos, screenshots, scanned pages and pictures saved from the web rarely come in one format. Images to PDF takes them together, in any combination, and turns them into one document in the order you set.

The picker accepts any image type, not only the four named above: BMP, SVG and AVIF files work too, as long as your browser can display them. A file it can't open is skipped with a warning naming it, and the PDF is built from the rest.

Convert JPG to PDF, PNG to PDF, GIF to PDF or WebP to PDF here, or combine several of those formats in the same file.

Format by format

How each picture format ends up in the PDF

FormatHow it is storedWorth knowing
JPG Its original compressed data, copied unchanged No second round of compression, so no extra quality loss
PNG Every pixel, with lossless compression Transparent areas stay transparent; animated PNGs are skipped
WebP Decoded by your browser, then stored losslessly The PDF is usually several times larger than the WebP files
GIF Decoded by your browser, then stored losslessly Only the first frame of an animation is used
BMP Decoded by your browser, then stored losslessly Uncompressed bitmaps usually take less space in the PDF
SVG Drawn by your browser as pixels No longer a vector: give the file a generous width and height for a sharp page
TIFF Usually not at all Most browsers can't open TIFF, so the file is skipped

Converting TIFF scans?

TIFF to PDF reads them on the server and turns every page of a multi-page file into a PDF page.

Page layout

Combine images into one PDF, one per page or stacked

The Fit multiple images per page (stack when space allows) box decides how the pictures share the pages.

Box unticked

  • Every image gets a page of its own
  • Small images are enlarged to fill the page
  • Each one is centered and reaches two opposite edges
  • Auto (Match Image) makes each page the size of its image

Box ticked

  • Images run top to bottom, a quarter inch apart
  • None is enlarged beyond its own size
  • A half-inch margin frames every page
  • Auto (Match Image) falls back to A4
Behind the button

What happens when you click Create PDF

A new, empty PDF is created and filled in one pass down your list, top to bottom. Each picture is added to the file once and drawn on its page, so the order of the thumbnails is the order of the pages, and a skipped picture leaves no gap.

Dropping more files onto the dropzone adds them to the end of the list, while choosing files through the browse window starts a new list. The close button on a thumbnail takes a single picture out again before you convert.

The finished PDF is named after the first picture in the list. The result also reports how many images went in and how many pages came out; with stacking on, the second number is usually the smaller one.

Four steps

How to turn multiple images into one PDF

Bring in everything that belongs in the document, whatever its format.

  2. Set the order

Drag the thumbnails into place; the first becomes page one. Click one to see it full size.

  3. Choose the page

Pick a Page Size, and Horizontal under Page Orientation to turn A4, Letter or Legal sideways.

  4. Create the PDF

Click Create PDF and download the finished file.

Yes, but A4, Letter and Legal give the whole PDF one orientation, so a wide picture on a Vertical page sits in a band across the middle. Choose Auto (Match Image) to let each page follow the shape of its picture, or Horizontal if most of them are wide.

With the stacking box unticked, every picture is scaled to fill its page, so a small image is enlarged and its pixels grow with it. Tick the box to keep pictures at their own size, or pick Auto (Match Image) so each page is exactly as big as its picture.

There is no rotate control in Images to PDF: pictures are placed the way they are stored. Create the PDF first, then turn the pages that need it with Rotate PDF.

Create a PDF from the picture here, then join the two files with Merge PDF. There you decide whether the picture's page goes before, after or between the existing pages.

No. Each picture sits on its page as an image, with no text layer behind it. OCR PDF can read the words out of it as text you can copy or download.

Yes. Page Size, Page Orientation and the stacking box are remembered in this browser, so the next batch starts with the same layout. Clearing the browser's data for this site resets them.

Open this page in your phone's browser, tap the dropzone and pick the pictures from your gallery or files. The PDF downloads like any other file, ready to attach or share.
