Sign PDF

Sign PDF files with a drawn, typed or uploaded signature

  • Draw Default

Sign with a mouse, a finger or a stylus. Stroke width sets how thick the line is, and Undo takes back the last stroke.

  • Type

Type your name and pick a handwriting font. The preview follows every change to the style, size and color.

  • Upload

Use a picture of your own signature. Save it as a PNG with a transparent background so only the ink lands on the page.

Four steps

How to add a signature to a PDF

  1. Open your document

Click Open PDF and choose the file. The first page opens with the Add Signature panel ready.

  2. Make your signature

Pick Draw, Type or Upload and create it in the panel.

  3. Place it on the page

Click Add to Document and drag the signature into place, or right-click the exact spot and choose Add Signature.

  4. Download the signed PDF

Click Download to save the signed file to your device.

How it works

What happens when you sign

Your PDF opens right in the page and each page is drawn on screen. Whatever you make in the panel, whether a drawing, a typed name or an uploaded picture, is turned into an image, and so is the date stamp. Drawn and typed signatures get a transparent background, so the lines and text beneath them stay visible.

When you click Download, the tool goes back to your original file and paints each image onto its page, at the position and size you gave it on screen. Everything else in the document, including its text, links and bookmarks, stays as it was, because the file is added to rather than rebuilt.

The signed copy keeps your file's name, with spaces and special characters turned into underscores and a short site suffix added at the end.

Tips

Getting a clean signature on the page

  • Shrink rather than stretch

A placed signature is an image. Making it smaller keeps it sharp, while stretching a small one well past its size softens the edges, so draw it large and scale it down.

  • Zoom in for narrow lines

The zoom buttons run from 50% to 400%, and 100% always fits the page to the window. Zoom in to line a signature up with a thin signature line.

  • Finish before switching tabs

Moving between Draw, Type and Upload clears a drawing you haven't added yet, so place it on the page first.

  • Keep typed names short

The name field takes up to 60 characters. A long name at a large Size can run past the edges of the signature image and be cut off, so lower the Size instead.

Good to know

What kind of electronic signature you get

This kind of PDF signing gives you an electronic signature, not a certificate-based digital signature: no digital ID is attached, and the file does not record who signed it or detect later changes. If a recipient asks for a certificate-based signature, you need signing software that holds a digital ID.

Need initials or a text box too?

Edit PDF adds initials, text boxes, shapes and drawings as well as signatures.

Yes. Turn pages with the arrows under the document and add a signature wherever one is needed. Every signature you place, on any page, is saved in the same download.

Click the signature to select it. Pull a corner handle to resize it. To remove it, click the red cross by its corner or press Delete.

Great Vibes, Dancing Script, Allura, Sacramento, Pacifico and Satisfy. Bold and Cursive change the weight and slant, Size goes from 8 to 200, and Color sets the ink.

Today's date, in the short format your browser uses for your language and region, such as 9/18/2026 in US English. Right-click a spot on the page and choose Add Date to put it exactly there.

Yes. If the PDF has fillable text fields or checkboxes, they show up as boxes you can type into or tick, and your entries are written onto the page when you download. Radio buttons and drop-down lists are not picked up, and a field holding letters from outside Western European alphabets, such as Cyrillic or Chinese, is left empty.

Not while the password is on it, because the tool can't save a signed copy of an encrypted file. Take the password off with Remove Password, sign, and lock it again afterwards with Protect PDF if you need to.

Yes. Drawing on the pad, dragging and resizing all respond to touch, so you can sign with a finger or a stylus. On a touch screen, use Add to Document and then drag the signature into place.

Not with this tool: once downloaded, the signature is part of the page. Keep your unsigned original if you might need a clean copy later.
