A PDF to image converter with a choice of format and size

An image goes where a PDF can't: into a slide, onto a web page, into a chat or an image editor. This tool lets you convert PDF into image files, in the format and at the pixel size you set.

Want to convert PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG or PDF to WebP directly? PDF to JPG, PDF to PNG and PDF to WebP convert straight to it, always at 144 dpi. This page is the one that also offers smaller pixel sizes.

Want the pictures inside the PDF?

This tool saves whole pages. Extract Images pulls out the pictures embedded in a PDF, each at the resolution it was stored in.

Image Format

Save a PDF as an image in the format that fits

  • PNG Default

Lossless, so small text and thin lines stay crisp, but files are the largest of the three. Image Quality only changes how many pixels each page gets.

  • JPG

Compressed with a small loss of detail, which keeps photo-heavy pages light. The format nearly every app, site and phone accepts.

  • WEBP

Compressed like JPG, usually into smaller files for the same look. Built for websites; some older desktop apps can't open it.

Image Quality

Pixel size and compression for your page images

  • High Quality Default

Pages are drawn at 144 dpi, so a US Letter page becomes 1224 × 1584 pixels. JPG and WEBP are saved at quality 95 of 100.

  • Medium Quality

108 dpi, or 918 × 1188 pixels for a Letter page. JPG and WEBP drop to quality 75 of 100.

  • Low Quality (Smaller files)

72 dpi, or 612 × 792 pixels, with JPG and WEBP at quality 60. Enough for thumbnails and previews.

How it works

What happens when you convert a PDF into images

When you add a PDF, the tool reads its page count and shows a thumbnail of every page. Convert to Images then draws each page you asked for onto a white canvas at the pixel size of your quality level and saves it in the chosen format, one page after another.

The picture holds whatever a PDF viewer would show: text, drawings, photos, filled-in form fields and stamps. Layers the PDF keeps switched off stay hidden. Rotated and landscape pages keep the orientation they are displayed in, so a landscape Letter page at High Quality comes out 1584 × 1224 pixels.

With One image per page (ZIP), all pages are packed into a single ZIP, and the result shows each of them as a thumbnail that opens larger and has its own download button.

One picture named after your PDF, such as report.png, with no ZIP around it. The pages you picked are stacked top to bottom in page order, each centred on the width of the widest page, on a white background.

Browsers limit how tall a single image can be: about 32,000 pixels in desktop Chrome and Firefox, and less on phones. At High Quality that is roughly 20 Letter pages, at Low Quality about twice as many. If a combined image fails, convert the pages in smaller groups.

Type page numbers and ranges into Pages to Convert, such as 2, 4-6. Pages always come out in document order, a page listed twice is converted once, and numbers past the last page are skipped.

Each page gets your PDF's name plus its page number, such as report_page_3.png. The ZIP that holds them is called report_png_pages.zip, or report_jpg_pages.zip for JPG.

Your last Image Format, Output Type and Image Quality are saved in this browser and chosen again on your next visit. Page numbers are not saved between visits.

No. Each page becomes a grid of pixels, so its text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. Keep the PDF for that, or run an image through OCR PDF to get its text back.

A PDF describes a page of text with a few drawing instructions, while an image stores every single pixel. A text page saved as PNG at High Quality often outweighs the PDF it came from. JPG or WEBP, or a lower Image Quality, brings the size down.

One PDF at a time: the upload takes a single file. To get the pages of several files in one go, combine them with Merge PDF first and convert the merged file. The images are then numbered through the merged document.
